The "Piggest
Raffle Ever" is quickly becoming the largest single fundraiser
for the nearly 200 charities and non-profits involved in
Flying Pig Marathon Weekend.
The "Piggest
Raffle Ever" was the brainchild of one of our charity
partners, CancerFree Kids, an organization supporting funding
for pediatric cancer research. From the beginning, the
"Piggest Raffle Ever" was designed to help any and all
charities and non-profits that wanted to sell numbered 'flying
pigs' that would be dropped during Flying Pig weekend.
During the
months leading up to Flying Pig Marathon weekend, flying pigs
are "adopted" for $5 each, with the proceeds going to either a
designated charity of the donor's choice, or into the Flying
Pig Charities fund. On Saturday, May 5, numbered pigs will be
dropped on Fountain Square, with prizes awarded to the owners
of the first three numbered pigs to fall into a chute. Over
7,000 pigs have already been adopted and are ready to fly on
race weekend!
First prize is
a two-year lease on a Toyota Prius, second prize is a VIP
experience at the 2013 Boston Marathon, including a jog along
the Charles River with Gold Medal marathoner Joan Benoit
Samuelson, and third prize is a 'night on the town' in
downtown Cincinnati.
"Because our
charity partnerships continue to grow each year, we wanted to
find a fun and easy way to raise money for them," said Iris
Simpson-Bush, executive director of the Flying Pig Marathon.
"With the 'Piggest Raffle Ever,' charities and non-profits can
sell their own pigs, and keep all the money they raise through
the sale."
