The Ernst & Young Flying Pig Kids' Marathon Final Mile Is Now Full!

What a year it's been for youngsters in the Greater Cincinnati area to eat healthy, get moving and exercise their minds with the Flying Pig Kids' Marathon! School children throughout the area have been walking or running their incremental marathons over the winter, writing down their progress on their 'Hog Logs,' and they're now ready to finish their Marathon Saturday at the Ernst & Young Flying Pig Kids' Marathon Final Mile event! 9 days until the Flying Pig Marathon weekend powered by P&G

It's Earth Day! Today the Flying Pig Marathon powered by P&G is going green! Here are some of the ways the 'Pig' is being more environmentally friendly this year.

Reduce

The Pig is reducing the amount of trash at the start and finish line by forming a Volunteer Green Team responsible for recycling and trash collection. We're also reducing the event's carbon footprint by partnering with PickupPal, a ride sharing website, and by planting trees with the help of the Cincinnati Park Department and Natorp's.

Reuse

At the P&G Expo, there will be several locations for the collection of gently worn running shoes for donations here, and abroad.

Recycle

The boxes, donated by Green Bay Packaging, that were used for storage of stuffed goodie bags were made of recycled cardboard. All cardboard used throughout the weekend will be recycled, as well as plastic water bottles at the finish and the Gatorade jugs from fluid stations. Brausch Farms will help compost leftover food waste at the finish line and Gatorade cups used at the fluid stations.

Also to be recycled, surplus medals from previous years and surplus runner bibs. In addition, Rumpke is providing environmentally friendly portable toilets, using recycled toilet paper, environmentally friendly chemicals that are bio-degradable, and waste disposal methods that process the waste and return the treated waste back to nature.

Once Marathon weekend is over, the 'Pig' office will promote building-wide paper recycling at Holiday Office Park in Cincinnati, where the office is located. Make it a 'green' Pig weekend!

10 days until the Flying Pig Marathon weekend powered by P&G

Looking for the latest in Pig Paraphernalia but don't have time to order from the Flying Pig store? Don't worry, you can get all kinds of Pig merchandise at the Flying Pig P&G Health and Fitness Expo Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1 at the Duke Energy Center downtown. That's also where you can meet fitness and wellness experts from around the country, and, of course, pick up your race information and packets. We'll see you at the Expo!

Tattoos for Charity

Speaking of the P&G Health and Fitness Expo, don't forget to get your (temporary) Flying Pig tattoo as you exit the hall! Proceeds benefit the more than 125 Flying Pig non-profits and charities that the Pig helps support throughout the year.

Tour the Town

Enjoy your weekend stay at the Pig even more, when you can see the sites of Cincinnati USA! Welcome to our daily "Squeals" to get you ready for the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon powered by P&G. If you're in the Greater Cincinnati area, tune into our TV partner, WLWT-TV, on Sunday morning to watch our weekly Flying Pig Marathon interviews. This Sunday, representatives from Bob Roncker's Running Spot will show you what you should wear to be stylish and comfortable for Pig weekend!

Do good while you're doing the relay!

There's still time to sign up for the Paycor Corporate Relay and to help your favorite charity at the same time. Half of your team's entry goes to either a Flying Pig charity, or the charity of your group's choice. Either way, you're doing good for others, while you're doing good for yourself. You can still sign up on line.

Speaking of signing up...

Our mail-in registration is now closed, but entries online are being accepted until April 19th. And remember, you can sign up for all the events in person at the P&G Health and Fitness expo. But go ahead and sign up now and get ready for Pig weekend!

22 days until the Flying Pig Marathon weekend powered by P&G

Welcome to our daily Squeal countdown as we get closer to the 12th annual Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon weekend powered by P&G. The weather's getting better and you're probably getting anxious for Pig weekend! If you haven't registered yet, you still can sign up online until April 19th. After that, you can register in person at the Flying Pig Marathon P&G Health and Fitness Expo the Friday and Saturday of Marathon weekend. Remember, there is no day-of registration available for the Sunday events.

This reminder...

The Marathon/Half Marathon course will close on a continuous pace of 16:00 minutes per mile. Anyone who cannot maintain the 16:00 minute per mile pace must move to the sidewalk, as the course closes to allow regular traffic. Runner services cannot be guaranteed for participants beyond the 16:00 minute per mile pace.

Baggage/Gear Check

Gear will be deposited in the eight First Student yellow school buses parked on Central Avenue west of Paul Brown Stadium and near the start line. Runners should give their baggage (labeled with name and race number) to the volunteers on the buses and at the window which corresponds to your bib number. Baggage retrieval in the finish area will be from the same bus and window as that which you deposited the gear.
Buses will be parked in Yeatman's Cove to your left as you enter the park. All baggage will be dry and attended to from deposit to pick-up but please keep in mind that the Marathon is not responsible for lost or damaged items. It is advisable to store valuables in a secure location.

Did you know...

While the start time for Sunday's events remains the same (6:25 a.m. for Wheelchair Division, 6:30 a.m. for the rest of the field), Saturday's schedule has been altered a bit.
The Walmart Family Fun Festival starts at 10 a.m. at Yeatman's Cove, the Ernst & Young Flying Pig Kids' Marathon one-miler is at 11:30 a.m. and the Flying Piglet Kids' Fun Run starts at noon at Yeatman's Cove with the mascot parade and race! The full weekend schedule complete with start times, locations and registration info will be in the Spectator Guide that you'll pick up at the Flying Pig P&G Health and Fitness Expo.

Did you know?

There are more than 120 charities and non-profits who use the Pig to raise money for their causes. Each year the Pig events help these groups raise almost a million dollars, with each charity keeping 100% of what they raise! You'll see a listing of our official charities in this year's Spectator Guide that you'll receive at the P&G Health and Fitness Expo. And if you're running or walking for a charity, thanks for training for a cause!

Speaking of charity...

Runners who shed extra clothing at the start line and for the next three miles need not worry about who's going to pick up the mess. Our bands of volunteers will be right behind, gathering up the extra jackets and shirts so that others may use them. Two Men and a Truck will have trucks located in Newport and at the start. Two Men and a Truck will deliver the discarded clothing to Saint Vincent de Paul for sorting, laundering, and redistribution to those in need. All runners are encouraged to "wear their donation" and be assured it will go to a good cause.

You're in good company

Not only do we have all 50 states represented in the Sunday field, but we have participants from more than a dozen countries joining us as well! Remember to put your name (and your state or country) on your shirt or jacket so our "Street Squealer" crowds can cheer you on throughout the event!

25 days until the Flying Pig Marathon weekend powered by P&G

We continue our countdown to Flying Pig Marathon weekend with news of a special discount for Flying Pig participants! Our partners at the Cincinnati Museum Center are offering a discount off general admission or the traveling exhibit, GOLD. Just show your bib or finishing medal to get the discount. The Museum Center also is featuring programming to highlight the Flying Pig so visit the Cincinnati Museum Center!
