PigAbilities is a training program within in the Flying Pig Marathon for people with developmental disabilities who want support, instruction and encouragement to successfully walk, run or wheel in a marathon event. Through a FREE 8 week progressive training program sponsored by The CARA Group, each participant will set their own personal distance goal which they may work towards on their own as well as by attending the PigAbilities training sessions. This 8 week program offers more than training, for instance wellness experts will cover topics such as good nutrition and benefits of physical activity. Each participant’s progress will be tracked on the PigAbilities Hog Log (click here to download your copy).
On the afternoon of Saturday, May 3, PigAbilities participants will complete their final mile and receive their PigAbilities medal at the Flying Pig Marathon Finish Line.
Saturday, March 1, 10am to 11am at the Gamble-Nippert YMCA, 3159 Montana Avenue, Cincinnati 45211. Meet the trainers and volunteers who will help you set and achieve your goal.
2014 Training Schedule
INDOOR training will take place at the Gamble-Nippert YMCA on the following dates:
- March 8, March 15, March 22 and March 29 (Random Oink visit from the Flying Pig on this date!)
OUTDOOR training will begin in April at the Theodore M. Berry International Friendship Park on Riverside Drive on the following dates:
- April 5, April 12, April 19 and April 26 (Random Oink visit from the Flying Pig and PigAbilities picnic!)
PigAbilities Registration is required with the Flying Pig Marathon (cost is $15) to participate in PigAbilities; go here and select “PigAbilities”. This registration covers a numbered bib, event tee shirt, and event medal. Non-refundable.
Be a Guide
PigAbilities is also an opportunity for a person to become a guide and support a participant. Guides are encouraged to attend all training sessions and are required to register for the PigAbilities event. (Guides will have the $15 fee waived with a special code used during registration.)
