PUMP N' RUN Event Fliers:
Pump N' Run Event Description
The LORD'S GYM PUMP N' RUN (PNR) adds a unique and competitive "Full Fitness Competition" to the 5K, 10K, half and full marathon events! The PNR participant will have the same running experience as their peers who don't select the PNR option... but will now be able to compete for additional awards, based upon a unique combination of running and strength. Runners will be timed two ways. First, they will be timed by their timing chip and the runner will be able to compare their time to other runners. They will also receive an additional time for participating in the PNR, which we have designated as the runner's "Net Run Time", and this includes their Pump Handicap.
Net Run Time (It's not rocket science!)
A runner's "Net Run Time" will be determined based upon how many times he/she can bench press a percentage of their body weight, determined by an age and gender handicap. There will be a 30-second run-time reduction earned for each bench press repetition for 5K and 10K participants, and a 2-minute run-time reduction for half and full marathon participants. No more than 30 reps are allowed to reduce the overall run time for the 5K and 10K (15 minutes total), and no more than 50 reps are allowed to reduce the overall run time for the half and full marathons (100 minutes total).
Two Lift Formulas (Short Distance vs. Long Distance)
Participants will only compete against others who have signed up for the PNR, and who are peers within their same race division (i.e. 5K PNR vs 5K PNR, 10K PNR vs 10K PNR, half PNR vs half PNR, etc). There will be two different weight lifting formulas to determine the bench press lift weight:
- A "Short Distance Race Formula" for 5K and 10K participants, which produces a heavier lift-weight.
- A "Long Distance Race Formula" for the half and full marathon participants, which produces a lighter lift-weight.
Awards (Lots of them!)
There will be separate Female and Male age-group awards for the fastest Net Run Times and also medals will be issued for personal levels of weight lifting achievement, which are not related to running performance: Bronze Medal (10-PUMP CLUB), Silver Medal (20-PUMP CLUB) and Gold Medal (30 PUMP CLUB). There will also be IRON MAN/IRON LADY awards in separate female and male age group categories (most Bench Reps and Curls added together), and a Post Race PUMP-OFF Championship for the 5K and 10K PNR participants only. See race fliers for details.
2-Person Team Competition (Optional)
In addition to competing as an individual, you can also enter the PNR Team Competition, at no extra charge. By assembling a 2-Person team, participants will be competing at both the individual and team level. There are three categories of teams: 2-Female, 2-Male and Coed (1 Female/1 Male). Medals will be issued for the "Fastest Team" (Both Net Run Times added together) and the "Strongest Team" (Both Bench Press totals added together), in each of the three-team divisions.
By entering the optional team competition, you will still be competing as an individual. To register a team, you will first register as an individual with the Flying Pig (see registration page), then the designated team captain will go to www.pumpandrunrace.com, and fill out an electronic form requiring the following information: Both person's names and contact information, team captain name, team name and race division (5K, 10K, half or full marathon).
A Non-Running Event Alternative
If you have an injury which prevents you from running, or you have weight lifting friends who simply "don't like to run", there will be an event called "THE PUMP N' CURL CHALLENGE" at the same time and same location, with NO RUNNING REQUIRED! This is a Hi-Rep, Hi-Endurance bench press and curl competition, and the event flier and sign-up details for this alternative non-running event, are at www.pumpandrunrace.com.
