Top 10 Marathon Moments

1) Greg Osterman, a heart transplant patient, runs his 6th marathon at the 4th annual Flying Pig Marathon, breaking his own world record for organ transplant runners
2) Cecil Franke sets the event record for men at the Marathon in 2006 in a time of 2:20:25
3) Tatyana Podznyakova sets the event record for women at the Marathon in 2002 in a time of 2:34:35
4) The Flying Pig Marathon offers the National City Half Marathon for the first time in 2005
5) Isaac Barnes sheds his ‘bridesmaid’ title at the Pig and finally wins; a six time entrant, he had come in second three times before winning in 2007
6) TJ Lentz wins his own Pig “Triple Crown” with titles in the Marathon in 2004, the Half Marathon in 2007 and the 10K in 2006
7) The name Gary Franke may not mean much to you, but if you say “The guy who runs the Marathon in the Shark Suit,” everybody knows who you mean
8) The “Parochial Pep Squad” in front of St. Margaret’s always gives divine inspiration as runners enter O’Bryonville
9) Speaking of inspiring, the heavenly sounds of the Crossroads choir from Evansville have visited twice to lift runners’ spirits on their straightaway to the finish line
10)The pig’s first run in 1999 drew more than 6,100 participants
11)The Marathon saw its first wedding on the course in 2003, when Molly McNeil and Jeff Knowles tied the knot in Covington
12)Each year the Delta Kings barbershop group reward runners and walkers who make it to the Eden Park Overlook on Marathon morning
13)The Flying Pig Marathon is named one of the “10 Most Fun Marathons” in the world in 2006 by Runner’s World magazine
14)The annual Mascot Race and Parade of Mascots entertain Flying Piglet participants on Saturdays of Marathon weekend
15)The “Pig” becomes a “Million Dollar Marathon” in 2004, as participating charities and non-profits raise more than $1 million for their causes through the Pig
